Megan Marino – Mezzo-soprano
In the 2011-2012 season, audiences saw Megan Marino debut at Opera Colorado as the 3rd Wood Nymph in Rusalka and Tisbe in La Cenerentola, Anita in West Side Story and Hermia (c) in A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Aspen Music Festival, the title role in La Cenerentola with the Baltimore Concert Opera, Pitti-Sing in The Mikado at Virginia Opera and Rosina in Il Barbiere di Siviglia at Opera Fort Collins. Other recent roles include: Orlofksy in Die Fledermaus, Hansel in Hansel and Gretel, Cherubino (c) & 2nd Bridesmaid in Le Nozze di Figaro, Phoebe in Yeomen of the Guard, Lucretia in The Rape of Lucretia and the Greek Trio Mezzo in the premiere of David Chesky’s award winning operatic satire The Pig, the Farmer and the Artist at the NYC Fringe Festival. Highlights from her 2012-2013 include singing the mezzo solos in Mendelssohn’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream with the Orchestra of St. Luke’s with Maestro Roberto Abbado and covering Ewa Podleś in the title role of Ciro in Babilonia (Rossini) with Maestro Will Crutchfield, with the Caramoor International Music Festival, Mercédès in Carmen at Opera Coeur d’Alene, Angelina in La Cenerentola and The Page in Salome with the Palm Beach Opera.
She garners awards from Ft. Worth Opera’s McCammon Competition (2nd place), Lotte Lenya Competition (3rd place and repeat finalist), Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions (regional finalist), Allied Arts (Career Grant) and Denver Lyric Opera Guild Competition (2nd and 3rd place). She has been a studio artist at Sarasota Opera, an apprentice at Des Moines Metro Opera, an Aspen Opera Theater Fellow, and has toured with Opera Iowa, Central City Opera and Virginia Opera. She holds a master’s degree from the University of Colorado and a bachelor’s from University of Southern Maine.
